There are no events at all in your log. So either "Asus WMI hotkeys" isn't the right device for the brightness keys, can you try "AT Translated Set 2 keyboard"? Or (more likely in this case), the kernel driver needs to be fixed to actually generate key events for the brightness keys; that's the case if you don't get any events on any of the input devices.
