Imho Tor will become sooner or later a software library, so that other software (like pigdin or adium) will start using it to build anonymity feature, like they use libotr to build message encryption feature. In the meantime that tor is still an independent third party binary, it would be useful to facilitate the work for 3rd party software integration for the various platforms (Windows, Mac OS X, Linux).
