Thanks for your response. Since I brought this topic up, perhaps I should provide an update to the list. As mentioned, the first time I saw the problem it went away when I changed exit nodes. The second time the problem became persistent over several days and several different exit nodes. I finally attempted to connect to Hushmail directly (no tor/no anonymity) and found that apparently my account had been locked. Using their contact form, I "explained what happened" and they unlocked my account. I suspect the response I got from them was auto-generated; there was no mention of Tor in it. .From this experience, I *suspect* (do not know) that using Hushmail via Tor runs the risk of getting your account locked. They run undisclosed software to detect "abuse" and this software takes action automatically. They did state that IP address is one of the factors considered . I gather one form of "abuse" in their eyes is opening a large number of free accounts. Conjecture: I suspect, based on IP address they concluded I was the owner of a number of other Hushmail accounts.
