Thank you. Sir, our history has been distorted to acclaim only two and downplay / hide the roles of others, who have contributed more and definitely sacrificed more. People like Veer Savarkar, V O C from T N suffered more and sacrificed more, just to name two great names. Who remembers Gokhale, Tilak Maharaj, Bagat Singh and their likes? I hope M K Gandhi did not go on fast demanding the release of the the 57 accused as his heart ONLY bled for them, Hindus were not worth defending. Thank God for 2014 or is it too early to rejoice? The 5th Conference of the Bhavnagar State Praja Parishad was to be held in Bhavnagar on May 14 and 15, 1939, under the chairmanship of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. When Sardar Patel arrived in Bhavnagar, a grand procession was taken out from the railway station. Sardar Patel was seated in an open jeep, greeting the people who had gathered on both sides of the road. When the procession reached Khar Gate Square, 57 so-called peaceful people hiding in the Nagina Mosque rushed toward the jeep with swords, knives,G and spears. Two young men, Bachhubhai Patel and Jadhavbhai Modi, witnessed this. They immediately surrounded Sardar Patel from all sides to protect him and, without caring for their own lives, took the fatal blows meant for him. They sacrificed their lives as a shield for Sardar Patel. The attackers struck both young men with swords many times — Bachhubhai Patel died on the spot, while Jadhavbhai Modi succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. Statues of these brave young men still stand at the very place where they gave their lives. The then British government conducted a detailed investigation and set up a special court. 57 accused were arrested, among whom: • Azad Ali • Rustam Ali Shipai — were sentenced to death. The following 15 criminals were sentenced to life imprisonment: • Kasim Dosa Ghanchi • Latif Miyan Kazif • Mohammad Karim Sainik • Syed Hussain • Chandra Gulab Sainik • Hashem Sumra Tah • Lohar Musa Abdullah • Ali Miyan Ahmad Miyan Syed • Ali Mamad Suleman • Mohammad Suleman Kumbhar • Abu Bakar Abdullah • Lohar Ahmedia • Mohammad Miyan Kazi They told the court that Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel had delivered a speech in Calcutta against the Muslim League, which led to a conspiracy to kill him.
