( track 2 )

The song is played by Sikkil Mala Chandrashekar, daughter and disciple of
Sikkil Neela and was also trained by her aunt Kunjumani ( the famous Sikkil
sisters ). After her marriage in MS Subbalakshmi family, she came under
the tutelage of the legendary MS Amma. The song was composed by Mrs
Ambujam Krishna, wife of Late Shri T.S.Krishna of the House of TVS. She
was simplicity personified who had composed some beautiful krithis in
Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Sanskrit. She was responsible for starting
Sadguru Sangeetha Vidyalayam in Madurai and Lakshmi Sundaram Hall for
concerts.

The same song played in their unique way by Ganesh and Kumaresh

There is a beautiful song by Harikeshanallur Muthiah Bhagavathar in this
ragam , played by the one and only Kadri Gopalnath

In cricket, we have all-rounders. Amongst the musicians, Muthiah
Bhagavathar was not only a giant but also an all rounder in the true sense
of the term. He was a performing vocalist, Chitra veena and Mrudangam
player, composer, Musicaologist and also a Harikatha exponent! He is
credited with the maximum number of compositions in the post-Trinity
period. He is responsible for creating nearly 20 new ragams and also
popularising some of the rare ragams like Karnaranjani, Niroshta,
Hamsanandi etc. He was versatile in several languages and was composing in
4 different languages. When some one queried him on Western Classical
Music, he composed the famous English Note which was later popularised by
his disciple Madurai Mani Iyer!

Kadri Gopalnath is also an unusual vidwan in the sense that he had used
the Western classical instrument of Saxophone to play carnatic music.
Hailing from Mangalore from a family of Nadaswara Vidwans, he had been
mentored by the Vocalist/Mrudanga vidwan TV Gopalakrishnan.

Generally Ragam Thanam Pallavi is generally handled only in major ragams
with scope for improvisations. I have heard this RTP by Nithyashree in
Karnaranjani

A rare Ashtapathi by Madurai TN Seshagopaln.

A lilting thillana in this ragam by my favourite Lalgudi, played by his son
Krishnan

There are a few more songs which for lack of time and space, I am not
uploading.

There does not appear to be a similar raag in Hindustani Music.

This ragam is not used by many film music composers. The exception could
be Ilayaraja in this song from the movie Thai Pongal and the singer is Das
Anna.

The next two are also by Ilayaraja and both by SPB
