The world of Nadi Astrology

By just using your thumb impression it is possible to tell everything about
you, your parents, your siblings and your future. It is said that Nadi is
an ancient astrology, which has been composed by great Maharishis (sages)
of India in the past using their spiritual powers. Pleased with their
fervent prayer and dedicated devotion, Lord Shiva bestowed on them with
this remarkable skill, which is a kind of sixth sense extra sensory
perception.

Nadi astrologers: The chosen ones?

With the help of divine guidance, the sages created records of everyone’s
past, present and future on palm leaves, which fortunately are still intact
even today. These records are however not available for the whole world,
the sages created the records for only those people who are destined to
know about them. It is widely believed that these chosen souls are
involuntarily attracted to read the leaves by force of circumstance or
under compulsion or by severe curiosity about oneself.

The language on the leaf

The language inscribed on these palm leaves is in old poetic Tamil and is
understandable to the very few who are well versed in the art of Nadi
reading. So, what kind of process is followed by the Nadi institute to get
to your leaf? After all, how can someone find about you by just taking your
thumb print? Is the process scientific? Let’s explore…

The process of reading the future

Nadi astrologers take your thumb print (right hand thumb for males and left
hand thumb for females) on a piece of paper. Every thumb impression can be
classified into a particular category and the leaves are categorized in
bundles based on the thumb imprint categories. They say that for a
particular thumb impression there could be several bundles, each containing
many leavess with the future of various individuals.

Once your leaf is found

Once the bundle matching your thumb imprint is found, the Nadi reader takes
you into closed discussion and proceeds to read each leaf, present in the
bundle. All Nadi astrologers claim that the leaf reader has no knowledge of
any of your details, he only reads out only what is written on the leaf as
he has been trained to understand that language. The reader would one by
one take up several leafs asking you to verify basic facts like your date
of birth, your father’s name, etc.

Asked and answered

These facts would just be told to you and not asked from you, you just need
to reply with yes/no. If you’re lucky you would get the leaf where
everything that is written would match and answers to all the questions
would be yes. It may also be that your leaf is not found, in which case
they search the records at the main center in Tamil Nadu. ( The main center
has a much bigger collection.)

Usual modus operandi

Helpers at the Nadi centers supposedly spend several hours trying to locate
your leaf; but do not charge anything for their services if your leaf is
not found. One needs to pay only after your leaf has been found, its
content recorded in the original Tamil form in a notebook and translated
into either Hindi or English by a translator. The words of the translator
are also recorded, on an audio cassette which one is allowed to take back
along with the notebook.

Doubts!!!

Most of us tend to think scientifically and science has no explanation for
miracles and superpowers, so many of us have a strong resistance in
believing Nadi Astrology. Do the Nadi leaves truly contain the complete
detail of our future and our past life too? Let’s know more about it to
reach a conclusion…

History of Nadi Shastra

The origins of the Nadi Shastra are shrouded in the mists of time. This
system of prediction has been used to give reliable guidance for many
centuries about past, future predictions between birth and death cycle of
one destined person. Research shows that this system has been in use for at
least 5000 years. The Nadi Shastra is believed, to have been first composed
very long ago by the Sapta Rishis and divine sages.

What is a Nadi Leaf?

In ancient times, the information was passed down orally. The written word
came 3000 years after that. The Rishis had special scribes to carefully
etch each letter of your story into the dried leaf with a special tool or
stylus. This was done all by hand to avoid splitting the leaf. The writing
has been almost always continuous, without any space between words. This is
one reason why the reading of the leaves requires training, as well as an
understanding of the ancient languages of Tamil or Sanskrit.

Preservation technique

Wikipedia says that when the etching was complete, lamp black or turmeric
was applied to increase contrast and make it readable, and oil was rubbed
in to help preserve them. A bundle of leaves in the same thumb print
category, or soul grouping, was then bound with a cord between two wooden
covers.

Chapter 13 is about your past life

Chapter 13 reveals your past karma – From this chapter, a reader reads out
a short story about your karmic life to reveal your past good and bad
karmas. Through this story, it will be revealed to you how and which of
your karmic acts are creating obstacles for you in the present and how they
may influence your future.

Your karma defines you

According to Nadi Astrology you are an entity born out of the energies of
the Cosmos that keeps being born on earth and every time you are born you
continue to carry the baggage of your karma. It reveals how your karmic
impressions unfolded in each life on earth you had and how they may
continue to affect you through your future.

Knowing your past karmas

Karma is viewed as the root cause of your thoughts, confusions in mind, the
way your mind compels you to act and so on. Knowing your karma will reveal
many secrets of your life. Why you acted in a certain way in a situation,
why you are confused and not able to solve a problem or how you achieved
something which others could not. When you understand what kind of Karma
your mind is possessed with, you will be able to free yourself.

Getting rid of Past Karmas

Chapter 13 suggests remedies of bad karmas affecting your life. The temples
in India are considered the power vortexes of specific energies. A Nadi
reader suggests about the temples that can disentangle or disperse the
inert karmic energies that you are holding in your psyche and thereby
remove obstacles from your life.

Beware! Nadi astrologers can take you for a ride

There are a lot of theories that state that Nadi astrology is not for real.
One of them being – It is not possible that your future is written on palm
leaves by sages who died thousands of years ago. If these leaves were truly
that old they should have withered away from now rendering the writing
unreadable. Even the original Mona Lisa which is more than 500 years old
has to go through extensive restoration and regular maintenance to maintain
its appearance

Just a smart way!

According to an investigation done by delhiplanet.com, the entire goal of a
Nadi Astrologer is to determine your name, place of birth and date of birth
post which he proceeds to make a birth chart allowing him to predict your
future like any other Pandit would do. What makes Nadi Astrology appear
more authentic is that they provide you with a lot of information about
your background. These details are however given to the astrologer by the
person themselves through a series of questions.

Challenging the beliefs

Some intellectuals say that all Nadi centers are located in houses which
are old and primitive. The Nadi leaves are also stored in small rooms which
are closely guarded. Such rooms however are not suited for storing leaves
that are so old. Daily weather changes, insects, rodents, etc. Can easily
destroy these leaves. So how is it possible that these leaves survived?

Leaves simply act as an eyewash

Naadi Astrology is some sort of family enterprise which originated in the
south of India. All the members of this fraternity are skilled at the art
of determining your current state using your thumb prints and thereafter
predicting the future after making your birth-chart. The leaves simply act
as an eyewash.

This is how a usual session ends!

All sessions end with a warning that your problems will get worse if you
don’t go in for the remedies. This firmly establishes that Naadi Astrology
is simply a means to create fear in the minds of people using less
understood religious ideology, thereby funding the lives of the members who
belong to this fraternity.

To conclude

There is quite a possibility that Naadi Shastra is an authentic branch of
Astrology but highly misused by a few who are fooling people to make some
moolah! There are things beyond our intellectual capacity so dismissing
this historical phenomenon, which finds mention in our roots, might not be
a good idea too. However, my personal experience with a Naadi Astrologer
doesn’t bring back fond memories so use your discretion before you lunge to
know your past or future.
