Legend in nutshell

As per legend, Narayanavanam was the capital of King Akasraja, who was ruling 
this region. The daughter of Akasaraja, who ruled thisregion, was born here. 
She  was enchantedby the beauty of the Perumal and married her. After the 
marriage, Padmavati Thayar's brother built thistemple. 

The stone machine where Padmavati Thayar ground flour forher wedding is still 
there in this temple.

Festivals

Annual Brahmotsavam is conducted in the mainVenkateswara Temple here as well as 
in Veerabadhra Swami and Sri AvanakshammaTemples. 

Navaratri celebrations are also held in theAvanakshamma Temple.

At the end of Sankranthi every year, Giri Pradakshinam (i.e., 
circumambulationof the Hill) is held and the Utsava moorthis of Sri 
Parasareswara Swami and SriChampakavalli Ammavaru, Sri Agastheeswara Swami and 
Sri Markathavalli Ammavaruare taken in procession.

Some more details  about the temple

There is a multi-storied Raja gopuram and it is believed thatKing 
Krishnadevaraya had built it during his tenure. There are separate SubShrines 
for Goddess Padmavathi Thaayar, Andal, Rama and Sri Ranganayakalu. Opposite to 
this there is a Hanumanor Anjaneya Swamy Temple and both the Temples are 
supposed to be Prayed oneafter the other in tandem.  Ata short distance from 
the Temple there is a Temple Tank where float festivaland other boat festivals 
are conducted during the Brahmmothsavam. 

What is the specialityof Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy temple?

As the name indicates, this temple carries significance fornewlywed couples. 
Newlyweds offer prayers first in this temple as this is theplace where Lord Sri 
Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy with Goddess Padmavathi Devi stayed for six 
months,just after their wedding.

This ancient temple which is under the control of Archaeological Survey of 
India (ASI)is maintained by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams since 1967 and 
utsavams andrituals in this temple are being performed since 1981.

Today, Sri Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy temple is consideredsacred, next to 
Tirumala temple. Those who are unable to make it to Tirumalacan have darshan of 
Lord Sri Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy to fulfil their wish. 

As the name indicates, this temple carries significance fornewlywed couples. 
Newlyweds offer prayers first in this temple as this is theplace where Lord Sri 
Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy with Goddess Padmavathi Devistayed for six months, 
just after their wedding as ordained sage Agasthya.

After celebrating His marriage with Goddess Padmavathi, LordVenkateswara did 
not return to Tirumala hills. But instead he visited the sageAgasthya's ashram 
to seek blessings. Over the wish of sage Agastya, Lord Venkateswara along 
withHis consort stayed at his humble ashram which has now become the famous 
temple.The divine couple stayed here for six months.

While returning to the Tirumala temple, Lord Venkateswarablessed the place with 
two boons-.

1. The newlyweds and elderly who are not able to visitTirumala can get the same 
benefits through visiting Sri Kalyana VenkateswaraSwamy Temple.

2. A devotee who takes part in the Kalyana utsasvam and tiesa ‘kaappu’ on their 
hand, can find their best, most beloved life-partner orfind new happiness from 
their existing relationship.

The temple is very well maintained. The temple tower is 7stories high. Inside 
the temple there is a shrine of Andal Nachiyar, SitaLakshmana along with a 
shrine of Rama and a shrine of Renganathar.

How to reachNarayanavanam Sri KalyanaVenkateswara Swamy Temple?

Temple is located at a distance of 37 Km from Tirupati andNearest Railway 
Station is at Puttur, which is about 5 km. Tirupati airport(Renigunta) is the 
nearest airport to Narayanavanam.

1) A.P.S.R.T.C Direct buses are available from Tirupati toNarayanavanam Temple

2) Buses to Puttur  orNagari are be available at frequent  frequency.You should 
get down at Puttur Bypass and from Puttur Bypass it is 5 Km toNarayanavanam 
Temple.

About Narayanavanam

Narayanavanam is a small village in Chittoor District ofAndhra Pradesh close to 
Tamil Nadu. The former name of Narayanavanam was Narayanpuram and the Pallavas 
toocalled it as Narayanapuram only. In olden days Narayanavanam was believed to 
be the capital of theKingdom of Karvetinagar. The Temple is supposed to have
