Dear friends, Sri Lakshmi Narayana Perumal Temple in Nenmeli is the templefamous for performing Sraddha (ancestor worship) in Tamil Nadu when individualsare unable to do so themselves. Introduction The Perumal of this sthalam is called "Sri LakshmiNarayana Perumal". The Utsavar of this temple is "Sri SrardhaSamrakshana Narayanan". Specialties of thissthalam : Sri Srardha Samrakshana Narayanan - Nenmeli It is said the Perumal himself performs sradha (a customwhich is done for our Pithrus after they are dead) to our Pithrus, if we couldnot perform it. That's the reason why the Perumal of this sthalam is calledwith - Sri Srardha Samrakshana Narayanan. The Maha Lakshmi Salagramam, which is found in the MoolavarSannadhi, is said to be so powerful and sacred and by worshipping this, we areblessed by Maha Lakshmi with wealth, health and Sakala Sowbhagyam. The sthalam is called with the name "PundareegaNallur" (Pindam veithaNallur) and is considered sacred and is equivalent to Gaya and Kasi. Sthalapuranam (Legend) The place where the temple is situated once was under thekingdom of Arcot Nawab. And, in this kingdom, lived an aged couple - YagnaNarayana Sharma and Sarasavani. Yagna Narayana Sharma had a Guru - YagnyaValkiyar, who belonged to Sukla Yajur Vedam. Yagna Narayana Sharma worked as aDiwan in the Nawab kingdom and both he and his wife Sarasavani had a greatbhakti towards Sriman Narayanan. Because of bhakti, the money, which they wantedto pay to the Nawab, was spent towards Deiva Kainkaryam. And as a result of this, they bothwere ordered to be imprisoned. But they don't want to accept the punishment andthought they spent the money only for good needs and for Deiva Kainkaryam. So,they went towards the Pushkarani of Thiruvedenthai Divyadesam and let theirdeath happen in the Pushkarani. But after their death,both of them were worried that they didn't have any children to perform theSrardham for them. It isBhagavan Sriman Narayanan who knows all of his Bhaktas thoughts and He fulfilsthem. And, He himself performed the Srardham, Thithi for the couples and eventoday the first Theertha is given to the family members of Yagna NarayanaSharma and Sarasavani. And even today, the Perumal himself perform Srardham forthe people, who doesn't have son or anyone else to perform and it is doneduring the time from 12 noon to 1.00 pm. Srardham in the temple And people who want to perform Srardham in this temple canjoin during the time of Pithru poojai by making the Sankalpam and dedicating itto the Perumal. The Neivedhyam done for this Perumal is Ven pongal (or) curdrice and along with it, Perandai + Yel Thuvayal is dedicated and the Perumalaccepts it with full of kindness. The Pithru Poojai, which is performed during Amavasya and Ekadashithithi, is said to equivalent to that of the Srardham that's being performed inGaya.
