Of all the temples covered in the Tiruvabharanam journey,Perunadu Sri Sastha

About the temple
Perunad Sree Dharma Sastha temple, also known as Kakkattu Koyikkal SreeDharma
Sastha temple, is located at Perunad near Ranni in PathanamthittaDistrict.
The annual festival in the shrine is observed for five daysstarting with
Uthiram Nakshatra in Medam month.
The temple, located on the banks of Kakkatu Aru (river), is a Sastha or
Ayyappatemple and he is worshipped here with his spouses Purna and Pushkala.
There is also a belief that the murti is Vettakkorumakan. Thedeity faces east.
The main upa devata in the temple is Rakshas.
The Thiruvabharanam which is brought back from SabarimalaAyyappa Temple after
Makaravilakku is adorned on the Sastha murti worshipped inPerunad Sree Dharma
Sastha temple.
In ancient times this temple was the Keezhedam of SabarimalaAyyappa Temple.
Perunad is noted for the Kakkattu Koikkal Sree Dharma SasthaTemple. The
processionsof Thiruvabharanam and "Thanka Anki" - The Royal Ornaments of
LordAyyappa halt here.
The Ayyappa idol inthe temple used to get decorated with "Thiruvabharanam" for
a day (21 January)during its return trip from Sabarimala to Pandalam palace.
This gives anopportunity for the women to witness Lord Ayyappa decorated
withThiruvabharanam as young women not permitted to enter the Sabarimala
temple.
Thousands of people turn up for this annual event from allparts of south
Kerala. Now a days from all parts of India.
Also a temple forMalikapurathamma is also situated near the Ayyappa temple in
Perunad.

Hundreds of devotees thronged the Kakkattu-koickal SreeDharma Sastha temple at
Perinad, near Vadasserikkara, to worshipThiruvabharanam, the sacred jewellery
of Ayyappa, brought back from Sabarimalaon Wednesday.
The presiding deity at Kakkatu-koickal temple is also adornedwith the
Thiruvabharanam every year when the jewellery is taken back toPandalam after
the Makaravilakku festival at Sabarimala.
It is believed that the king of the erstwhile Pandalamroyal dynasty,
Rajashekhaa Varma, had stayed at the Perinad temple to monitorthe construction
work on the Ayyappa temple at Sabarimala centuries ago. The procession carrying
theThiruvabharanam was accorded a reception on its arrival at Perinad.
The presiding deity was decorated with the sacred jewellery at 2 p.m. and the
Melsanthiperformed the ‘aarati’.
Women devotees
Hundreds of women devotees from the neighbouring States of Tamil Nadu, Andhra
Pradesh andKarnataka too have reached Perinad to worship the
Thiruvabharanam.The temple will be kept open till 2 a.m. on Thursday for the
devotees to have darshan.
The procession will proceed to Aranmula later in the morning.The royal
entourage will stay back at Aranmula on Thursday night and the sacredjewellery
will be taken back to the Srambickal Palace at Pandalam on Fridaymorning.
