CULTURAL QA 122024 TOPIC GENERAL BASE QUORA QA

Q2 Why don't people live in the middle of Australia?

G-My note- I included this QA as described by a person knowing Australia
about condition in Australia.

KR: Total population of Australia is 2.69 crore only where the density
of population is 3.3 per sq km. Only Melbourne has 21000 per sq km which in
itself is too low compares cities like NY, Mumbai. USA has density of 36
per sq km. Central Australia is desert as well as occupied by aborigines.
Facilities will be provided only when population is reasonable. In 1970 K K
Nagar flats in the main Rd had no compound walls, good electricity and
burning ghat will be visible with the burning dead bodies. So only when the
occupations became full-fledged, all came in; but cost of flat and rent
shot up. Central population of Australia is just 41000 people. I remember K
K Nagar where taking my kid in my hands, I was running for a doctor on a
Sunday evening. In Chennai! Hence even to occupy there shall be population
desire.

Q3 Why is Thiruvananthapuram, as capital, unable to compete
with Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad?

KR Funny. Labour is not costlier sir; the communism execution is
worse because of political and Police support. Long ago, I wrote in the
same column., how I was asked to pay for carrying my brief case as in
charge of TVM office almost in front of my office. When I refused to pay,
they were about to assault; when I called the police in the jeep parked
nearby in that busy street, he turned his face away. Of course, I entered
the office and dialled DIG when he not only apologised but explained the
nature of politics. But for communism, so many Palghat Brahmins would not
have shifted out of.

Trivandrum, the capital of Kerala, is a good place to live in
2024, with a low cost of living, a thriving IT sector, and a rich cultural
heritage: 2024

Cost of living: Trivandrum is relatively affordable compared to other major
Indian cities, with moderate housing, utilities, and daily expenses. A
monthly public transport pass in Trivandrum is ₹800, compared to ₹1304 in
Kochi.

Culture: Trivandrum is rich in arts, culture, and history, and is home to
many festivals and events throughout the year.

Education: Trivandrum is an educational hub with many premier schools and
colleges. It is also home to the Indian Institute of Space Science and
Technology, Asia's first space university.

Healthcare: Trivandrum is known for its multi-specialty hospitals and
medical tourism.

IT sector: Trivandrum's IT sector is thriving, with Technopark attracting
many job seekers.

Safety: Trivandrum has a low crime rate and clean streets.

Infrastructure: Trivandrum has a well-planned transportation system and
good infrastructure.

Food: Trivandrum offers a wide variety of food options, including
traditional Kerala dishes, seafood, and other international cuisines.

Location: Trivandrum is strategically located at the southernmost tip of
India.

Below, we explore the disadvantages of living in Trivandrum,
helping you take an informed decision about moving to this city.

Limited Nightlife and Entertainment Options

Trivandrum lacks a vibrant nightlife compared to metro cities like
Bangalore, Mumbai, or Delhi NCR. The city offers limited options for pubs,
bars, and late-night entertainment – which may be a drawback for those
seeking an active social scene.

Traffic Congestion

This is a growing issue, particularly during peak hours. Narrow roads in
certain areas and an increasing number of vehicles often lead to delays,
making daily commutes challenging for residents.

High Humidity Levels

The tropical climate in Trivandrum comes with high humidity, especially
during summer and monsoon months. This can be uncomfortable for some
individuals, particularly those not accustomed to such weather conditions.

Relatively Slow Urban Development

Urban development in Trivandrum is slower compared to other major Indian
cities. While infrastructure is improving, the pace of development in areas
like modern residential projects, commercial spaces, and recreational zones
is relatively gradual.

Fewer High-End Outlets

For those who enjoy premium shopping experiences, the options in Trivandrum
may feel limited. While there are malls and local markets, the absence of
many high-end outlets may be a concern for some residents.

Internet Connectivity Challenges in Remote Areas

While urban areas of Trivandrum have good internet connectivity, residents
in suburban or remote parts of the city may face inconsistent or slower
internet speeds. This can be inconvenient for those who rely on stable
connectivity for work or education.

Despite these drawbacks, understanding the disadvantages of living in
Trivandrum allows you to prepare better and make adjustments to suit your
lifestyle. Balancing these challenges against the advantages can help you
in taking an informed decision about moving to this serene city.

Q5 Why should you upgrade to Windows 11? What will happen if I
don’t upgrade before the 14 October 2025?q5

>From pc magazine: 26 6 24

10 Major Reasons to Upgrade to Windows 11 Now

A slick new interface, better security, Copilot AI, updated apps, and info
widgets are just some of the perks of upgrading to Windows 11. Here's why
you should do it sooner than later.

There’s something to be said for staying up to date. Windows 11 is the
first major update of the leading desktop operating system in seven years.
Upgrading to Windows 11 gives you the latest in technology, plus
capabilities and features you can't get anywhere else. The underlying
system code also makes advances that will leave you in the dust if you
stick with older software.

Making a big change in operating systems, however, isn't for everyone—even
I have had reservations about Windows 11. Don't worry, though, as you have
until 2025 to stick with Windows 10 if you want, and the option to pay for
support beyond then. But there are compelling reasons you might switch
sooner.

1. A More Consistent Interface

Windows 11 interface

PC users no longer need to hang their heads when friends show them their
slick macOS and ChromeOS user interfaces. Windows 11 is every bit as slick,
aside from the occasional old-school Control Panel dialog box. The rounded
window corners, compact Taskbar, and touch-friendly (sorry, Apple) design
is easy on the eyes. It just looks nicer. Let’s not forget the understated
and pleasing new system sounds, too.

2. Built-In Generative AI

Copilot in Windows 11

Microsoft's Copilot generative AI tool combines the smarts of ChatGPT with
Bing web-scraping for up-to-the-minute data. While you can get an optional
basic version of it in Windows 10 as an installable app, Copilot in Windows
11 can do more, such as change settings and organize windows using Snap
Assist. The Windows 11 version of Paint also includes AI image generation
from text prompts in styles like oil paint, photorealistic, ink sketch, and
anime. That's more than the art styles that you get with Apple
Intelligence, which is limited to cartoons and sketches.

3. Improved Included Apps

Video Editor in Windows 11

The included apps in Windows 11 are better than those in Windows 10. An
all-new Media Player app makes watching videos and listening to music and
podcasts a better experience. Windows 11 users also get Clipchamp, a simple
template-based PWA video editor suited to small businesses making videos
for marketing and advertising. The Windows 11 Clock app deserves special
mention because of its useful Focus Sessions that help you concentrate on
projects. The Photos app also includes generative erase for removing
objects or backgrounds. The Notepad, Paint, and Calculator apps have all
been updated as well.

4. A Better Screenshot Tool

Snipping Tool in Windows 11

Taking screenshots in Windows 11 continues to improve, with many good
options in the updated Snipping Tool, including the ability to record
screen video and copy or redact text from images. The Snipping Tool lets
you select rectangular or freehand areas, program windows, or the whole
desktop. It then opens a mini editor for cropping and markup. The
screenshot tool also has a delay timer and built-in options for saving and
sharing. You can still use the tried-and-true PrtSc key to save a screen
image file to the clipboard or to OneDrive.

5. Snap Layouts for an Organized Desktop

Snap Layouts in Windows 11

In Windows, you have always been able to arrange windows on the desktop
just the way you want them. Just when I thought it wasn’t possible to
improve the already great capabilities in Windows 10—which lets you snap a
window to the side to fill exactly half the screen or to a corner for an
exact quarter of screen real estate—Microsoft comes up with another window
layout trick called Snap Layouts. When you hover the cursor over the
maximize icon at the top right of any window, you get multiple layout
choices in a thumbnail view. You can even save a layout for a group of apps
you want to reuse later in a single taskbar icon.

6. Widgets for Quick Access to News, Weather, and More

Windows 11 Widgets

Windows 10 has a nifty News and Interests panel that pops up on hover over
its Taskbar icon, but Windows 11’s Widgets are more customizable. And
coming soon, Windows 11 will support third-party information widgets. Many
of the first-party widgets are extremely useful: News, Weather, Sports,
Traffic, Family Safety, Stock Prices, Outlook calendar, To Do, and OneDrive
photos. Your news feed is customizable by topics and sources. Microsoft has
also previewed a new feature for the Widget panel that lets you view it in
full-screen mode.

7. Twice as Resistant to Malware

Security Settings in Windows 11

According to PCMag’s lead security analyst, Neil J. Rubenking, Windows 11
is ultra secure. Much of that is thanks to its requirement of a secure
processor called a Trusted Platform Module. (Despite the increased
security, this new requirement nevertheless raised the hackles of many a
Windows commentator, since it meant some older PCs would not be able to run
the new OS.) According to Microsoft, secured-core PCs are twice as
resistant to malware infection.

8. Improved Multiple Desktops and Monitor Docking

Multiple Desktops in Windows 11

New docking behaviors in Windows 11 make using a large external monitor a
more efficient experience. The OS remembers window locations on the
connected monitor and minimizes them when you disconnect, rather than
littering the smaller screen with app windows. New for multiple Desktops is
the ability to use different wallpapers on each one and a redesigned
desktop switching interface.

9. Gaming Performance and HDR Improvements

Xbox App on Windows 11

Windows 11 gets two improvements when it comes to using high dynamic range
(HDR) colour on your compatible display. You can toggle it on or off via
the Windows Game Bar, and a new Auto HDR feature will save you even that
trouble. Another gaming improvement comes by way of the new Direct Storage
feature, which lets games load directly into video memory, bypassing the
CPU for much faster game loading times.

10. Windows 10 Is Going Away Next Year

Unless you want to pay Microsoft extra, your Windows 10 machine will no
longer receive security updates after October 14, 2025, and believe me, you
don't want to run Windows without security updates. You also miss out on
new features like the Snap Layouts, better screenshot tool, and new Copilot
features. If you decide you can't live without Windows 10, business users
will pay Microsoft $61 per year, doubling every year for up to three years.
Pricing for individuals still hasn't been announced.

CULTURAL QA 12-2024

TOPIC- GENERAL BASE QUORA QA

Q1 Do you know any good church jokes?

A1 Brenda Deason, I dabble in comedy. Jun 6

The church needed a new coat of paint. The Stewardship Committee asked for
bids. Jerry was a painter and really needed some work. He quickly put in a
low bid to make sure he got the job. Sure enough, his low bid was chosen.

Jerry went to buy the paint and realized his bid was too low. The paint was
going to cost more than his bid. Being an enterprising man, Jerry decided
he would just get half as much paint as he needed and add water to it.

He got to work and started painting. It was a big job, and the Committee
was impressed by his hard work. When he was nearly finished, the weather
report predicted a big storm was coming in. Jerry hurried and finished the
job before the storm hit.

As he listened to the rain coming down the night of the storm, he hoped his
watered-down paint job would be okay. He rushed over to the church first
thing in the morning. When he arrived, the sun was peeking through the
clouds and shining on the church. All of the watery paint had been washed
off!

Jerry was mortified! His plan had failed. What would he do now? He walked
around the building, wringing his hands. His shoddy work was apparent for
all to see. His reputation as a painter would be ruined and God’s House
looked terrible. The money the Committee had spent on the new paint job was
for nothing. Jerry’s heart was broken.

He knelt down and lifted his heart to God. “God, I am sorry! I cheated the
church and I am ruined! What can I do?” Sobbing, he looked up in amazement
as he heard God’s voice in answer to his prayer.

 “Repaint, and thin no more!”

My note- I enjoyed the joke very much

Q2 Why don't people live in the middle of Australia?

A2 Sandhu, Lives in Sydney, Australia (2019–present)Dec 5

None has given the correct answer. People are mostly saying that’s it’s hot
or lacks water or something like that. They are all wrong.

The real reason is Australia has just not enough people to generate tax to
be able to inhabit its remote parts. Australua taxes 45% to its meagre
population with which it’s barely able to keep its costal cities running.
Poor infrastructure, poorest internet, electricity outages, not maintained
roads, super expensive housing, these are the traits of a poor country
which are often visible in Australian cities. There are just not enough
people to generate enough funds to deliver those things in the middle of
Australia.

I took a road trip to Alice Spring. On the way, it’s not that the internet
was poor, there was no internet. That’s 99% of Australia. Imagine 99% of
Australia has no internet. We had to carry sat phones. People who live in
those parts use sat phones like you and me use cell phones. Roads are so
narrow that you have to go in the opposite lane to overtake.

This is how Australian remote cities look like.

This Urumqi, a remote city in western china.

Before development it was also a snow barren land. But they worked on it.
So apart from lacking enough people Australia also lacks the will for
development. Australians are contented with paying 45% tax, living in few
number of cities worth living, reaping the benefits of the development
which happened during British era and that’s it. The entire country is just
wasted.

My note- I included this QA as described by a person knowing Australia
about condition in Australia.

Q3 Why is Thiruvananthapuram, as capital, unable to compete
with Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad?

A3 Jitendra Sharma, Lives in Hyderabad, Telangana, India
(2013–present) Updated 6y

I was in Thiruvananthapuram (or Trivandrum as it is corruptly called) for
three years.

One day, there was a electric transformer to be installed in our college
campus.

A Truck carrying the transformer, came till our college gates and then
there was a huge fight between people who got it and some locals.

Later I got to know from my Malayalam speaking friends that transformer was
delivered and to be installed by seller but to unload and install it at the
place (and not actual installation) was to be done by local CPI(M) workers
(CPI(M) workers forced this decision when they saw transformer at college
gates)

Since college had already paid for everything, including installation, we
directed local CPI(M) workers to seller (who already got his own workforce)

Both, seller and local CPI(M) workers negotiated but negotiations failed.
CPI(M) workers dared seller “we’ll see how you will install” threat and
long story short, transformer was outside college gate for more than a
month.

Later, seller got hold of another CPI(M) worker from his locality and
college was made to pay the newly negotiated price.

*This was not just a single incident.*Once, we went to East Fort
(Thiruvananthapuram city) from Vellar junction (distance was approx 15–20
kms) to watch a movie.

When we came out of the theatre, we realized there has been some political
murder and that all the public transport has been shut.

We walked till our hostel.

Strikes called by some political party was way too common and during such
strikes, loot of shops was very common.

Once one of my college friend was boasting about how he took advantage of
such loot, became a part of the mob and looted a Woodland showroom, alas,
only to pick shoes of different sizes.

There is also a ground within city limits where political opponents meet to
settle scores!! One of its kind (:

One has to understand the co-relation between economy and development.
Development can only happen if it has a flourishing economy. Economy will
only flourish if every participant (local shop owners, sellers, buyers,
industrialists, small and large medium enterprises etc.) feel secured to
run their businesses. Unfortunately, constant strikes only acts as major
hindrance to flourishing economy.

This maybe one of the reasons why Thiruvananthapuram isn’t, in spite of
being a state capital, is not able to compete with Bengaluru, Chennai, and
Hyderabad.

My note- I have lived in Trivandrum from 1991 to 2004 end and frequently
visit thereafter since my daughter in law is from Trivandrum. City and
outskirts are developed a lot, ofcourse labour problem is there.

I recollect I had been to workers union office nearby to my Trivandrum
residential quarters and asked them to load things to transport from
Trivandrum to Chennai. It was in 2004. With a smile, they said five of them
will come and load safely. Charging was double of Tamilnadu, which I
pleasingly gave to them. No issues I felt. But throughout Kerala labour is
high and unions fight it as a right to load and unload things.

One thing comes to my remembrance. Mr G Viswanath once an active member in
thatha pattti group wrote- Once he went to Quilon and wanted to unload
things. Porter charges were double that of Bangalore. He just expressed it
to porters. They replied- sir, go back and unload, at Bangalore for half
the charges. He just smiled and paid porter charges demanded.

Q4 What are some little known facts about birds?

A4 Lai Jin Wei, reads a lot of books5y

Note-: One of these facts contains sexual references

1. Birds don't understand glass. It's estimated that a billion birds die
each year from crashes into glass.

2. In 97% of bird species, the males don't have penises.

3. Birds can actually physically fart but never really need to.

4. Birds are considered dinosaurs in science, therefore dinosaurs are
technically not extinct.

5. In order to be light enough to fly, birds have only one ovary.

6. Birds sing in their dreams.

7. Bearded vultures are the only birds known to wear cosmetics. They
deliberately dye their feathers with red soil.

8. The bird with the largest vocabulary in the world speaks 1728 words.

9. Twitter's bird is called Larry.

10. Small animals such as flies and hummingbirds experience time in slow
motion, which is why they can avoid your newspaper swats.

11. A bird caused the Large Hadron Collider to be turned off in 2009 after
it dropped a piece of baguette into it.

Q5 Why should you upgrade to Windows 11? What will happen if I
don’t upgrade before the 14 October 2025?q5

A5 Redington, Dec 24

If you don’t upgrade to Windows 11 before October 14, 2025, your Windows 10
PC will still work, but it will no longer receive security updates from
Microsoft. This means your system will become more vulnerable to security
risks and viruses. Additionally, Microsoft will not provide technical
support or reliability fixes for Windows 10 after this date.

Here are some keys benefits with Windows 11 Pro where organisation can
leverage advance tools and new enhanced features

Enhanced User Interface, Built-In Generative AI, Improved Apps, Better
Screenshot Tool, Virtual Desktop Support, Snap Layouts and Snap Groups,
Enhanced Touch, Pen, and Voice Support, Gaming Enhancements, Security
