I was surprised at the comparison of thermodynamics and life in,"One of the
basic principles of Thermodynamics is that the heat from a body where the
temperature is more moves into a body whose temperature is comparatively
less. The heat from the body whose temperature is less cannot move into a
body whose temperature is more. When the heat in the two bodies is same
then there is the Thermal equilibrium that is there will be no heat
exchange or the movement of molecules between the two bodies.( An Idiot
whose education is less cannot educate a person who is more educated,
unless he shouts and bluffs that his shouting is educating.)
Bhartrihari defines “actual” or empirical substance as that which we
refer to by using indexicals and quantifiers, which refer to anything in
our ontological reality: ‘this’ ‘that’ ‘something’ or ‘anything.’ The term
‘this’ points out an existence given to perception, while ‘that’ refers to
something whose existence can be validated by some other means of knowledge
but which is not available to perception. Bhartrihari also acknowledges the
pragmatic and common sense view of “substance” as “a relative concept being
dependent on our concept of quality (*guna*). A substance is that which is
said to be distinguished and a quality is that which distinguishes the
substance.

For all ill things there is a cure; the fire’s Red spleen cool water shall
at once appease, And noontide’s urgent rays the sunshade tires, And there
are spells for poison, and disease Finds in the leech’s careful drugs its
ease. The raging elephant yet feels the goad, And the dull ass and
obstinate bullock rule Cudgel and stick and force upon their road. For one
sole plague no cure is found – the fool. (*Nitishatakam, Translation by Sri
