My dear YMji, holding your old copper line or changing to FTTH is only
optional. But FTTH is widening; and all the carriers have laid own the
connections opted for, and laid down the fiber cables at street ends for
the past few years; and it cannot lie as such; so a time limit may be
fixed sooner than later; in the meantime , now appointed agents by carriers
only are responsible to lay and connect so they are reminding you. The
fiber connection has a speed ; really 100 mbps running at times at 120
aalso aas there is no traffic. seeing movies on TV is different sensation
unlike copper where you may have to wait for buffering. If you can afford
to, keep the copper line at base level rates and pay that charges plus FTTH
also. In FTTH, as you had the parallel connection in each room with the
same level of audibility ,bell ringing simultaneously is possible ,only
through certain external agencies; and you cannot connect a phone attached
to an internet level connection as easily as a copper phone. Mr G only
still states that it is done in his home. But my friend DGM and above
simply smiled at that statement.
And it all depends on your choice. But FTTH is speed evil really. And
a tit bit. I was under the impression that the USA as I was in San Jose
then assumed it had such a brilliant speed internet where people were
coming home to give us connections. But one was employed to connect and
maintain. Once I was in India operating at 3 mB speed waiting for the
buffering to be flabbergasted when the whole 20 songs could be downloaded
and a CD made in less than 20 minutes. But alas; now I find that too in
the USA; every colony is served only by one operator and forced by
compulsion. So my area man provides FTTH only (AT & T) and being a monopoly
provided only 30 MB speed asking the house to hold only 6 lines open at a
time for efficiency. Alas 2 working at home cobble up mainly 24 by 7; my
grandson has all school activities and playing games @ office holds 2+2
laptops open 24 by7 and 3 cell phones; and grandsons 2 plus 2 plus games;
totalling 11 lines. Limit is only 6. the power enhancement package is not
there; no option to change operator; and we have 6 lines now; so totally 18
including the printer. And all Indians in the USA are conjus masters; will
not spend but only earn; so they will not have 3 lines which alone for
business AT and T are waiting for, but our conjus will not so easily yield.
Net result buffering in the USA after my vision of that kind last was
somewhere in 1998. Of Course today in the world Land lines are removed and
forgotten and one day will be dead also. But speed internet? K Rajaram IRS

All these days we have been getting the landline phone and the internet of
BSNL without any complaint. For the last six months a broker type has been
approaching us to change to Fiber net.We postponed. When we inquired with
the BSNL phone of 1500,we have been told that it is only optional and that
Fibernet is not compulsory.
Yesterday the broker came again stating that the Fibernet is
unavoidable. When we dialed the 1500 number to inquire the provision of
conversation with the BSNL executive is removed. All other numbers to press
do not answer the question whether the fibernet is compulsory.
Is there a conspiracy against the BSNL to hand it over to the Ambanis?
