All of this is fixed at least for Android, Linux and Windows users (Conversations + Gajim), except for video chat. But that's not important - Conversations does not support video chat at all, which is OK because WhatsApp does not have it either and thus people do not expect it. Not supporting something that you cannot support well is a peefectly acceptable trmporary solution. Everything that works in WhatsApp works with XMPP on Android (sometimes it even works better). So, go and move WhatsApp users to Conversations - they will not miss anything. *Then* start building new things - e.g. good desktop clients, good video chat,… All these things are *new* for WhatsApp users - they do not have it in WhatsApp and they do not expect to have it. Yes, I even think ripping media stuff out of Telepathy as long as it doesn't work would be a good idea.
