Reasoning on https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56951 . Any tips on which component I should select?
Summary: I believe current behaviour is broken. I understand multiple devices and Skype-like protocols will complicate things. But for everyone else, current behaviour makes no sense. Compare with Pidgin's approach: connection drops, messages are kept unread. Possible (simple?) solution would be triggering the opening of the window of the chat with the unread messages there, freeing the unread message buffer. Regarding design decisions: I would have to look at the code.
