I looked at install.sub briefly, but I don't see anything offhand that would cause this behavior. I was able to do an upgrade saturday on a third system, littleguy<ftp://ftp.unencrypted.org/pub/littleguy.dmesg>, without issue. No clue if this is even a tech list worthy issue.
