I have a good excuse --- a child process was spawned, and it doesn't
take well to resource limits yet :-)

The impression I get is that RLIMIT_CPU isn't particularly well
honored (especially with interrupts being delivered at all hours of
the day and night), and you're probably learning more than you ever
wanted to know about RLIMIT_CORE....
