I don't have an N86, but I did a quick search on Google, and I found the
following answers on the web page:
http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/t5/Nseries-and-Symbian-Smartphones/Nokia-N-series-N86-power-saving-mode-can-i-do-it-on-purpose/td-p/534344

as it says in the user guide on p.25:

"To save power, activate the power save mode.

Press the power key, and select Activate powersaving. To deactivate it,
press the power key,and select Deactivate power saving. You may not be
able to change the settings of certain applications when the power save
mode is turned on."

it goes into power saving mode, when the battery is very low on its own
so it can get you through until you can get to a charger. its actually a
really cool feature. it also is present on the n85.

I'm not sure, but I hope this helps. BTW, I couldn't quickly find any
documentation on what exactly this feature disables, but I would assume
it would turn off any radios, such as bluetooth and wifi. It may dim the
display and have the screen turn off more quickly. It also sounds like
some power hungry features of some applications are disabled. This
information may be documented somewhere on the web that you could find
with Google. It may also be in the documentation for the N86. Another
alternative would be to just enable it when you need it and figure out
through tiral and error what you're losing when this mode is activated.
