Thanks for the hint. Indeed, with lvmetad, the need for a manual "vgchange -a y" goes away. Sadly, the need for "vgchange -a n" in the stop case does not. Additionally, although the "vgchange -a y" is superfluous in the use_lvmetad=1 case, it results in spurious error messages on service start from systemd 215 (nothing useful in journal; both the mount and the crypt/generated service have started successfully).
