Seems like an outright systemd bug, if you're not thrown into a rescue session at some point. Can you pull the logs from this boot? (From the options in http://freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/systemd/Debugging/, systemd.log_level=debug and debug-shell.service are probably most useful).
