I can't envision any typical email client that would.  IMHO, the project seems 
very high up on the 'unworkable' scale unless your IMAP server uses a DB 
backend and all those messages are heavily indexed.

Check your IMAP server; there are very likely going to be tweaks you need to do 
there as well (maybe even needing to change server software entirely). It's 
going to be painfully slow to do anything, even if the server side supports 
extensive caching.
