IMAP was designed for several clients to access the same 'email store' from several different places. If you use TBird to download and email and move it to a LOCAL folder I believe it will be removed from the server. Once this happens the email can't be found by SMail. POP3 protocol does this by default. The only emails that SMail sees are those left on the server. Hope this helps.
