Squirrelmail 1.4.5, freeBSD 5.4-RELEASE, courier-imap 4.0.6, courier- authlib 0.57

I have a secure IMAP (courier) running on a server on port 993 (and only on port 993). I have squirrelmail on another server, trying to connect. Imapd-ssl works fine with my mail clients (Thunderbird, Outlook, Mail.app, Outlook Express, and Entourage)

When squirrelmail's configtest tries to connect to courier-ssl on port 993 to login, it reports:

(* OK [CAPABILITY IMAP4rev1 UIDPLUS CHILDREN NAMESPACE THREAD=ORDEREDSUBJECT THREAD=REFERENCES SORT QUOTA AUTH=CRAM-MD5 AUTH=CRAM-SHA1 IDLE AUTH=PLAIN ACL ACL2=UNION] Courier-IMAP ready. Copyright 1998-2005 Double Precision, Inc. See COPYING for distribution information.)

Notice that START_TLS is not present in the CAPABILITY Section. And Squirrelmail complains about this. This seem odd as the SSL connection on port 993 is already encrypted.

ERROR: You have enabled TLS encryption in the config, but the server does not report STARTTLS capability. TLS is probably not supported.

So, fine, I tell SM not to enable TLS, but that is the "Secure IMAP (TLS)" setting, so when I do that, SM never connects at all and all login attempts simply time out.

It appears that the configuration SM wants is port 143 with StartTLS and it will not accept a straight SSL conenction on port 993.

For various reasons I cannot give it a connection on 143.

Anyway to get around this?
