Do you have login access to the server? If so, next time you find it running slow, type "top" (without double quotes) and you might just see the application that is using the resources to cause the delay. > Our hosting company installed Debian 3.0 on our VPS for us, with several > default programs, including a pop server - popa3d. Chances are, the pop3 server had nothing todo with the speed issues. > The IMAP server I installed is Dovecot. I am using the default IMAP port > (143), and have SMTP set with port 25. More specifically, you might want to try disabling mail_fetch, filters, and archive_mail. > I am also having Apache deflate all their messages, based on an idea > I read somewhere on the newsgroups or the wiki. That isn't hugely uncommon, but will not be the cause of your issues here. > "jB56pKDw020704: collect: premature EOM: unexpected close" > message at the beginning of the day. This probably means the client attempting to deliver the mail quit the connection before finishing what it was doing (i.e. issuing a "QUIT" statement, or issuing a LOGOUT depending on the service). > also on the last slow day, the only errors in my apache2 error.log file are: > File does not exist: /usr/share/squirrelmail/favicon.ico This is fine. Your browser is attempting to do the pretty icons for favourites, and similar such things. I'm guessing you're using firefox, it attempts to do that automagically for you. > Would upgrading to SquirrelMail 1.4.5 be a logical next step to try and > solve these issues? We're getting ready to release 1.4.6 just before the end of December. - -- Jonathan Angliss <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.2 (MingW32) iD8DBQFDmlEdK4PoFPj9H3MRAgXWAJwNR4Q2kNzyy2S6+EqMsfkwcU0gXACfQuqq PQqNwzJAOVqF/NRj7VEZULs= =49G4 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc.
