Yep, I would but they don't have it anymore. So I guess the answer is hack or wait for someone else to hack...

Please do not top-post. And please reply on-list.

If you are using SM against the same server, then they have IMAP. It is possible that they only allow localhost access to the IMAP server, but that seems dubious. I suggest asking again, since they clearly DO have IMAP running.

When you organise your mail into folders in SqMail it seems to take them

If you use POP3 with Kmail, yes. Use IMAP.

Further, according to my ISP, this is
normal for all thick clients. True?

Normal depends on what protocol you are using. POP3 only looks in your INBOX, then usually removes mail from the server. IMAP leaves the mail on the server and has the ability to place mail in other folders on the server that POP3 clients cannot see.

If so, then is there a workaround, a
hack, an interesting and not too complicated idea on this? The ideal here
would be to be able to get everything that is in SqMail to download and
then sort it on this end.

If you want to do that on your desktop and don't want to use IMAP, then don't create and sort mail into folders in SM.

Unreasonable, undoable, unthinkable? I do need both web
access and thick client access to my email, depending on the location
available (I travel a lot).

Then you have no choice. Use IMAP for KMail.
