To me (and comments from some users) the words 'Previous' and 'Next' seem to
tie very closely to the Date/Time of the message. So the first time I saw it, I just
assumed that's what it meant. After a short time, I realized that it was just going
up and down the list. Since the default installation sorted by received date and put
the newest on top, it just "seems" reversed to me.


If the words were a setting at the server config level, as suggested, that would let
each administrator decide for him/herself. Let the default still be Previous/Next,
but then we can change it if we want to. I might use '<<<' and '>>>', which says
nothing, but is understandable to most users.
