I'm assuming you have enough users on your RH9 box to make doing this by hand an unlikely task. In theory you should be able to read the contents of ~/.mailboxlist via a shell or perl script, move each file listed in .mailboxlist to ~/mail/, update your subscription list via .mailboxlist to reflect the new location of each of the files moved, and move on to the next user. You'd also need to update your SM config.
config/conf.pl, Option 3, then 1, or $default_folder_prefix = 'mail/'; I'm new to SM and IMAP but this looks like the method I'd consider taking.
