server side sorting is not enabled in SM by default. It was your choice to go to "4. General Options" in config (conf.pl) and set "server side sorting" to "true" Your imap server does not support server side sorting. If you have plans to run SquirrelMail with 2500 users - change your imap server. And configure SquirrelMail correctly.
