I have this problem all the time actually! SM uses frames so when you change the encoding, you're changing the encoding for all the frames at once. Apparently this has a side effect on the right frame and causes it to go back to INBOX, I get it all the time. I've found that if you open the message in its own window (or tab) and /then/ change the encoding, it will display fine. Or you can change SM's language settings (Options -> Display Preferences -> Language) to Japanese it will also work.
Would be nice if when selecting the message the script would pick up on its encoding and change the frame's encoding before displaying the message. Is this possible?
