[SM-USERS] Error: You must be logged in to access this page.

I don't know if this is a squirrelmail problem or apache.
 
When i login to my squirrelmail from the my LAN I can login no problem
but When i login from the internet I get this "error you must be logged in to access 
this page"
 
I pointed port 80 and 443 to the squirrelmail server. 
I am using squirrelmail 1.4
apache 1.3.26
php-4.2.3
openssl-0.9.6d
 
anyone know what could be the cause of this problem. Can it be the permission in the 
htdocs (where all my web files are and squirrelmail) folder.
 
I am lost any lead would be greatly appreciated
