Hi

I have just joined this list.
I am using Win2K pro SP3, IIS5 (fully patched) & SSL, Mercury32 v3.32,
SM 1.4.0, php 4.3.2

After a bit of tweaking I have everything working well.
I do get the error:
Error opening ../data/default_pref
Default preference file not found or not readable!
If I create a blank .pref file with the few basic defaults for the user
then the error goes away and SM works as it should. All other files can
be created and edited as they should be using SM.

Also had the logon loop (you must be logged on to view this page) which
again was fixed using advice from messages on this list.

I also had problems with Message Highlighting but fixed that using a link
in a message from this list (I think).
With this a list of error would show and the message would not be
highlighted. There would be no subject and the date was for 1970.
Clicking on the message would display the message correctly.

Problems with the spell checker not working were fixed, again with advice
on this list.

Also the search function would not work. It would show several lines of
errors and then show the correct messages containing the search string.
However there was the problem of the subject being blank and the date was
for 1970. Again the message would display correctly when clicked. This
was for all tested accounts.
This has now gone away.
The only things I can think that has cured this is the changes I made to
the folder defaults using conf.pl. I also deleted all the users files
(except for their password) from the mercury mail folder. This never made
any difference until I also made the Folder Defaults changes.
The changes I made to the folder defaults are below:

1. Default Folder Prefix: I have left this blank
2. Show Folder Prefix Option: false
3. Trash Folder: Trash
4. Sent Folder: Sent
5. Drafts Folder: Drafts
6, 7, 8, 9, 10 & 11 all set to true
12. Default Sub. of Inbox: false

This gets to my questions.
Are these settings OK?
Everything seems to work well (except the Error opening
../data/default_pref problem).
Do you think it could be these changes that made the problem of searching
messages go away?
I have made them because Mercury does not support folders in folders.

Thanks to anyone who has got this far.

regards
