Here is a sample of a real session (save my password).  There are many
other commands, but all you need to do is see if you can log in, so this
is all you need to do.

$ telnet localhost 143
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.

* OK Courier-IMAP ready. Copyright 1998-2002 Double Precision, Inc.  See
COPYING for distribution information.
A LOGIN "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" "mypassword"
A OK LOGIN Ok.
B LOGOUT

B OK LOGOUT completed
Connection closed by foreign host.
