Yes, this seems to be an across-the-board attack, and I am seeing this on other mailing lists, and also in personal mail from known friends. The modus operandi seems to be hacking (probably weak) passwords for accounts on sites like Gmail and Yahoo offering email addresses to people at large. Have no immediate worthwhile suggestions on how best to deal with this, but as Hoss says, it is worth bearing in mind that the people in whose names the mail is being sent are also victims.
