I'm experiencing the same issue in my setup. If you do not see any logging for several seconds, then it _could_ be due to garbage collection. If you experience heavy traffic and have very large caches, then the JVM might be forced to do a full garbage collection from time to time, halting all processes. In that case your caches might be too big, and you should experiment with decreasing their size. You should be able to profile the JVM to monitor garbage collection.
