I would like to offer a formal apology to anyone who has followed my memory tuning advice that includes the "-XX:NewRatio=1" option. I have lately learned that this setting is causing me a problem I didn't even know about - extremely long pauses during young generation (ParNew) GC, leading to occasional super-long queries and load balancer health check failures. I was warned this might happen, so some of you get to say "I told you so!"

I am still working on my config, so I don't think it would be appropriate to share it at this time. After I've done a lot more testing and can reach some reasonable conclusions, I'll share the final results.

Thanks,
Shawn
