You might want to look at ngrams and/or shingles. In this case I suspect that ngrams are better suited, I don't think shingles applies with the direction you stated, but your problem description is so short I thought I'd mention it.
Although your collection of words can work (think synonyms) if you have a pre-determined, probably small, list of equivalencies...
