You probably won't find a good synonyms file. The problem is that synonyms tend to be domain-specific, so a synonyms file for chemistry would be of little use for psychology.
Spellcheck is generally more useful it it's derived from words already *in* your index. It's of little use to a user to have spellcheck/autosuggest show terms that aren't in the index...
