long startup time

I've been testing Solr 1.4.0 (RC).
After sometime, solr started to pause
for a long time (a minutes or two) after
printing:

        INFO:  jetty-6.1.3

Sometime it starts immediately, but more often
than not, it pasues.  Is there any known cause
of this kind of long pause?
