snapshooter.log logs all invocation of the snapshooter, including the automatic ones triggered by a commit/optimize.
There are log files in the logs directory on various status/stats: http://wiki.apache.org/solr/SolrCollectionDistributionStatusStats These status/stats can be displayed in the admin page by clicking the [DISTRIBUTION] link on the admin page.
