I'm running into the same issue. I've set autoSoftCommit and autoCommit but the speed at which docs are indexed seems to be inconsistent with the settings. I have lowered the autoCommit to a minute but it still takes a few minutes for docs to show after indexing. Soft commit settings also seem to have no effect (from what I understand of the docs, Soft commit makes items viewable but I'm not seeing them until well after the autoCommit period has passed.
