FYI: that news section is just a manually maintained list of items as 
regular forrest content (forrest is the tool used to generate the site and 
build up the navigation).  each subproject generates their su-sites 
autonomously, and in some cases uses completley different tools to build 
the site.  if an item shows up on the index of a sub-project, and on the 
main Lucene home page that just means someone manually added it to both.

if anyone knows of good forrest plugins for publishing RSS feeds from 
content, or consuming RSS feeds and embedding them in pages, that 
would be one way to get more standard updating of news on the site.

[EMAIL PROTECTED] *should* be used for announcements by all subprojects, but 
it's probably not utilized as much as it should be.
