Personally, I'd strongly recommend (to the point of mandating) that
whenever going from one version of Solr to another that the example
schema and config files that ship with the new version are used and
any customizations are re-merged/re-worked into them.
Yeah, I know ideally that using existing configs while upgrading
should be supported and just work - but it is safer to work with the
new configs. I don't know about the other developers on Solr, but I
have long since ditched Solr 1.2 and I certainly don't manually test
back compatibility and there are no back-compatibility unit tests that
I'm aware of.
