I know almost nothing about the join feature. But I do know that localparam syntax (the curly braces and exclamation point) typically only works when it is the very first thing in the query. Putting some other character (like a parenthesis) at the beginning of the query probably keeps Solr from interpreting the localparam. Instead of this: ({!join stuff}query) try this: {!join stuff}(query) Thanks, Shawn
