FWIW (and I'm sorry for hijacking) I've faced this challenge too, and found that DirectSpellchecker has a parameter for it: thresholdTokenFrequency see https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/solr/Spell+Checking. It can supress lowfrequent suggestions considered as misspelling in the index.
