Querying the schema can be done with the Schema API ( https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/solr/Schema+API), which is fully supported by SolrJ: http://lucene.apache.org/solr/6_0_0/solr-solrj/org/apache/solr/client/solrj/request/schema/package-summary.html .
