Hi guys, It has been a while I was thinking about this and yesterday I took a look into the code :
I was wondering if the termEnum approach is still a valid alternative to docValues when we have low cardinality fields. The reason I am asking this is because yesterday I run into this piece of code : org/apache/solr/request/SimpleFacets.java:448 if (method == FacetMethod.ENUM && sf.hasDocValues()) { // only fc can handle docvalues types method = FacetMethod.FC; } So it seems that , if you enable the docValues in the schema, we are always going to use them even if the method select is term enum. So does it mean, in case we have enough disk space, that it is always suggested to use docValues now ? Of course I know that would be great to move as soon as possible to the new json facet API approach. P.S. still verifying the famous legacy facet degradation on latest Solr compared to old Solr4.
