It is scheduled to be released with the next release of Solr. Shouldn't be too long before it becomes part of the trunk/nightly code. If you find it useful, please do tell us here or vote/comment in the Jira issue. Bug reports are welcome too :)
You can also add yourself as a watcher to the SOLR-469 issue. That way, you'll be notified by email for all changes. You'd need to be registered on Jira before you can become a watcher.
