A little off topic, but this is on page 19, before for loops are
introduced. If you look ahead to page 27 (2.5.2) that example is
redone with a for loop.

I have tested this with Age of Myhology (Titans 1.03) on
wine-1.1.7-106-g38815e1, patches 1-11 don't seem to cause any problems
(haven't checked extensively though), but upon applying the 12th
(0012-WineD3D-ARBvp-ffp-replacement.patch) the water lost it's
transparency [1].

You do not have the gcc compiler installed. On Ubuntu you will need to
install build-essentials (I think that's what it's called), and also run
'sudo apt-get build-dep wine'. I'm not sure what the process is on Debian.
