They break dll separation, and they interfere with the command line of
Winelib apps. It's easy enough to write a wrapper script to handle
options if you w

Well, the upshot of not having a paying job is I can do more Wine compiles.
Of course, I need a lot of time, since Wine takes forever to compile on
my box. :-)

I don't know why I didn't think of giving you more
examples of what the last change of resolution
changing did but here they are:
gta2 manager now detects these resolutions twice:

800x600
1024x786
1152x864
1280x960

Did you per-chance :
1) disable the usage of XVidMode in your config file
2) disabel the XVidMode extension on your X server

To continue the resolution detection problems story,
today comes Max Payne.
My X resolution is 1280x1024x16.
If run under desktop mode with a size of 640x480, Max Payne sees
correctly video modes (640, 800, 1024 and 1280) but fails with a
BadWindow error.
Since this error is usually corrected by

That usually means that there is a problem with your locale. Run
with +x11drv and look what locale is used by XFree86. Also check
whether xev works with your locale.
