I have been able to observe the same behaviour using the VOS Windows 5.0.1
build, and have logged a bug report for the Virtuoso development team to
look into. Once I have some feedback on resolution I shall provide you with
an update.

Hi,
I just noticed that when running SPARQL query with
output:format (TTL or RDF/XML it does not matter)
setting, immediately after the server restart, query
results are always returned in the valmode LONG
format.
Subsequent queries (if made on different connection)
are OK.
For example:
