As the request does not appear to be reaching the server, can you confirm that
you explicitly changed the HTTP port for Virtuoso from it default of 8890 to
80, as the sparql endpoint URL you are giving is using port 80 ?

Virtuoso open source and commercial does now have support for polygon geometry
types and others as detailed on the 7.1 release notes at:
